Are you a rising musician who’s about to release your very first album? Or are you a business owner who wants to create a compelling product demo? Then you better make the most of your CD packaging!

The CD packaging is the first thing that gets people’s attention. Those people who haven’t heard about you or your product will adore or ignore you based on your CD packaging. Yep, everybody is superficial especially if we are talking about a product’s packaging.



So how can we make attention-grabbing CD packaging? Knowing that beauty is subjective, you have to find what most of your target market find beautiful. I only used the word beautiful but we can use a more general term- Appealing. Appealing could mean cool, clean, simple, or over-the-top. Let’s just say I am a new RnB singer, then I should research the taste of my audience. One way of doing this is by researching on the creative CD packaging concepts of your genre. Another way is by asking the fans what they like. Some bands post versions of their CD packaging artwork on their site or facebook page and ask their fans to vote for the ones they like. This goes the same if you are a businessman making a CD packaging for your product demo or company profile.




Now, after doing some good research about what your target market likes, it’s time to know what you like your band/company to look like in the heads of your prospects. In other words, you should know what image you want to project. Think of words and feelings that you want people to associate with your band/company. These kinds of feelings, words, images, should be transpired by your CD packaging , whether in an obvious or subtle manner. This is called branding. Other bands don’t care much about it and they are surely missing a lot.



Do not just pick a random artwork unless you intentionally want to be labeled as "the band who doesn’t care much about their image" or "the anti-art band that’s totally random". You have to be strategic with your CD packaging because it helps build your image. Although I haven’t found any statistic that proves that a creative CD packaging sales, but I do believe it can build your brand. I am 100% sure of that!



Instead of scrimping too much on CD packaging artwork so that you’ll have budget for traditional marketing, why don’t you realize that CD packaging can be a great tool for marketing. That if you just make it so compelling, it will instantly create a buzz. CD packaging should be given enough thought and its capacity to impress people should never ever be underestimated.
